Hi there, I am Jonas and I come from a small town nearby Düsseldorf in Germany.

I was always fascinated by biology and how scientists can unravel previously unsolvable mysteries, so I decided to pursue a career in research. During my bachelor’s program, I got the great opportunity to peek into a wide variety of subjects, but ultimately, I got hooked on infectious diseases, which I proceeded to specialize in during my master’s degree.

I have a huge interest in the molecular processes involved in the progression of infectious diseases and how pathogens, and particularly parasites, manage to effectively bypass human immune responses in order to survive in this highly complex environment.

For me, the main drive to pursue a PhD is the acquisition and utilization of knowledge. I want to become an independent scientist who can combine different methodological approaches to answer questions about the biological mechanisms of infections. I believe that the Cell2Cell network is a great opportunity for me to fulfil these goals and to grow on both a personal and scientific level.

Next to my quest for scientific knowledge, I am also always on the search for the best candy and pastry a country has to offer. For my PhD I moved to the charming city of Nijmegen in the Netherlands, which fulfils my culinary needs with the famous “Stroopwafels”. Nijmegen is located at the “Waal” river, and, adapting to the Dutch culture, you can reach the lovely countryside within a few biking minutes. I enjoy being in nature, doing sports and making music and as a student city with a lot of variable offers, Nijmegen is the perfect place to do exactly this.
